Smith and Morehouse?

I have been asked to take some scouts fishing. I want to take them to the Uintas but they didn't want to go that far. Still trying to talk them into it. Anyway I thought of Smith and Morehouse is maybe a little bit closer. It's been several years since I have been there. I've done well from a float tube in the past but taking scouts I will be on the shore. How is the shore fishing up there? Is it worth it or should I talk them into going up Mirror lake highway or any other places anyone knows is good from shore? I'm open to other suggestions. I want these kids to catch fish. just remember anyone 12 and older needs a license. There are reduced rates for 12-13 ($5) and for 14-17 it is $16. Then its regular price for 18 and older.

We fished SandM a few weeks back. It can be fun for grayling with a fly and bubble and stocked rainbows. It is very popular with summer paddle boarders and such so expect some crowds. If you have scouts you may want to hike around the far side away from the road that will give you more shoulder room for some younglings to , well, be teenagers.

I have taken scouts to west chicken creek on the north end of strawberry. Drive in by the highway station on the main road headed west. Good parking and rest room. We caught great fish from the bank. Fish early  worms and floating cheese.

There is actually a license exemption for scout groups or other tax exempt organizations. I have used this for scout fishing trips for boys under age 16. Won't work for the older boys but if your kids are under 16 no need to buy them licenses for a scout fishing trip.  Here's the form you need.

I have always caught fish with power bait at Trial Lake off the Mirror Lake highway. It has never failed. Several other lakes close too if they want to explore. That is, if SandM doesn’t happen.

The scouts decided to cancel so I might just hit Utah Lake or somewhere close in the morning before the afternoon storms that are forecasted.
