Friday, 08/24/07-Finally made it back on the Lake! On the water around 5:00 pm. According to my truck the outside temp. was 110 degrees! Water was calm.
Outboard did not run very smooth on the trip to Sand Island. Kind of missed and sputtered. Upon arrival, fished a quick boil, along with six other boats. One boat left its outboard running and fished way to close to the feeding action. I think the best way to fish these small boils is to move in slow, shut down the engine, and cast from the outside. Sorry I'm rambling.... First two casts resulted in two nice three pounders. Stripers hit hard on Zara Spook Jr's. The surface feeding ended quick as a couple more boats arrived. Switched to a Spin-O jig, and added one more to the box by jigging.
Fired up the outboard to move downstream where a bunch of birds were hanging out. Engine began running rough so I thought it was best to head in while it was light. I'd been fishing for all of about 20 minutes! Made it back to the marina by 6:30 pm. Boat would not go over 3000 rpm without missing and sputtering. Looks like I'm off the water until my engine is serviced. Anyone have a good experience with a Merc. mechanic locally?
