Starting early this year!!!
#1
I know last year when I posted it seemed like it was too short of notice for anyone so here I am Starting MUCH earlier this year.
I am planning on a Pike/Smallmouth trip to Rainy Lake (northern MN/southern Ontario) north of Minneapolis about 4.5hr drive for June (BEST time of year to fish there). It is a very reasonable trip due to flying into MSP so flights are reasonable and then rent a car and sharing a room or cabin as well as rent a boat and have 2 or 3 people per boat (3 is more economical). It is self guided but some of the forums give you great advice and the local guides are rather helpful It is an amazing lake!!!! Also plenty of walleye for those that love walleye.
If anyone is SERIOUSLY interested in a trip to the great fishing waters of the North let me know and I will start to arrange plans.
I am thinking 4 days of fishing so total 6 day trip (2 days of travel). It will be about 170/day per person for food (eat at restaurant), boat, gas, rental car and room. The flights are about 250 R/T if you shop in advance so it will be about 930 per person total - figure 975 with taxes and a little extra spending money for tackle, beer, whatever you may want...so call it 1050.00.

We do not have to do Rainy as there are a few other lakes that are options but all are similar price such as Cass Lake.

Did some negotiating and searching (this place is about 1mi from where I stayed last year).
100hp 17' boat with troll motor, gps, 950/wk 2 boats 1900.00/wk
3room 6bd cabin - sleeps 6 1060/wk
TOTAL with 2 boats 2960/wk

Figure this divided by 6 guys (3 per boat) and it is 493/wk
+ food and gas (gas is usually about 30/day for boat divided by 3 people)
(about 40/day for this if eat lunch at cabin $8 breakfast $15 dinner) so 493/wk + 280/wk (for food and gas) = 773/wk + rental car at 15/day with gas = 785/wk

This is killer for Rainy - about 115/day per person..
Now are you considering it??? 7 days canadian fishing for just over 1000.00 including airfare.....

I wish I could make it. We canoed and camped in the boundary waters last year. The fishing is awsome. Here some thing to whet your appetite:
