Personally I've been looking in West since it's only 12 miles.

Just a quick search on Priceline for a weekend there are 6 or so hotels that range from 55 to 140 a night. I've driven through Island Park Ina pure white out blizzard and then when you get over the divide it's just snowing. Plus in West there are places to eat! Lol

Hmm. At double the price I wouldn't stay there either. We will be renting a cabin. Swells should be open and have rooms, I think.

Personally I would get a room over in West and make the 15 min drive over, not much further than Macks in IP and you got more options for food or things to do if the weather prevents you from hitting the ice.

I third the motion to check out West Yellowstone. I camp on the ice a couple of times each year. We fish the evening then get hungry and board about 6:00PM. That is when we head to West to eat. Then we make our way back to camp on the ice for the early morning bite. It really doesn't take long to get back and forth from West Yellowstone and as others have said there are more dining options.
