I got off work at around 2am last night and had a crazy idea, try Starvation at night. Turns out I may not be as crazy as my Wife tells me.
Little fish fanatic and I launched from Rabbit Gulch campground around 3:15am and slowly worked jigs with our favorite curly tail (purple and orange) tipped with a crawler around the island. We had steady action until around 5 am until I noticed one spot that everytime we drifted over we always picked up a fish or two. At this point we would just drift over this very distinct hump from 13 fow to 20 fow over and over and we killed them. We both caught our limit of Walleye plus an occasional smallie.
Having just recently been Starvy trained and certified by my fellow BFTers(Thank you) I just may get a little cocky and full of it (you know what of). But then I thought of past Walleye expeditions and I started to get scared because what if (This is as good as it gets). At this point I expect I have a reckoning coming in some form and truly expected something to go terribly wrong but nothing.
Right about 8 am I took a good look over at little fish fanatic who had his 6 foot toon tied to my 11 ft toon yacht (as he calls it) so he can utilize my minkota trolling motor and he was snoring (chopping cord wood). Very impressive to be able to even doze off not to mention actual sleep on a 6 ft toon but he did it.
It was getting close to 10 am and I was trying to upgrade my limit of Eyes and a big heavy pull on my St.Croix and I knew I had a dandy. With visions of a 6 to 7 lb walleye dancing in my head, but was so cruelly dashed when that stinking rotten carp hit the surface. Oh well, a great morning on a lake that I have struggled with and a limit of Eyes, I am beaming from ear to ear.
Thanks to all of you who have helped me learn how to be successful and a big shout out to (tube dude), Pat I think you could take the most inept Walleye fisherman (me) and make turn him into Babe Winkleman (not me) in short order. But really you have at least you have given me a fighting chance!!!!
