Fritz, just a thought; I haven't used it yet, but I've seen it on Commercials and it looks easy. The new aluminum welding rod, you just need a propane torch to use. Harbor Freight has it.

What my brother and i did to his boat that had rotten transom cracked aluminum was replaced the transom wood then sandwich the aluminum with a piece of wood that cover damage on the outside of transom. We water proofed the wood then used marine abrasive sealant on the aluminum crack/holes and back side of wood. Stainless bolts ran through transom. We just used enough wood to cover the damage to the outside of transom. We sealed everything we did. This was 5yrs ago
