A pair of Las Vegas anglers who visited the lake over the weekend said they had very good success, even though they had to endure rain and strong winds. They caught rainbow trout that weighed up to 3 pounds with live night crawler worms that were injected with air to float them above the bottom of the lake. The fish were also biting on PowerBait.

The lake was recently planted with rainbow trout and most the fish that are now being caught are the planters.

Boaters who were fishing near the tires at Lake Mead Marina Sunday night reported good success for stripers.

Stripers that weigh from one to two pounds have been coming from Stewart’s Point and Fish Island in the Overton Arm. Boaters are drifting and trolling with anchovies to catch the fish.

Channel catfish are being caught above Overton Beach Marina and at Stewart’s Point. Anchovies are taking the catfish as well as occasional stripers in those areas.
Very little fishing activity has been seen in the Boulder Basin in recent days, possibly the result of windy weather. Shore fishing has been slow in that part of the lake.

Rainy and very breezy weather continued to make fishing conditions difficult. Daniel Maes, Assistant Area Supervisor, said that fishing pressure was heavy but the success rate was low. Cave Lake, Comins Lake and Illipah Reservoir are now free of ice and the trout fishing has been fairly good at all of the lakes, according to Chris Crookshanks, NDOW biologist.

Rainbow trout that weigh 3 to 4 pounds are being caught at Comins, which is located approximately seven miles south of Ely adjacent to U.S. 93. Illipah, located west of Ely, has had good fishing for rainbow trout that were stocked last year. NDOW will stock the three lakes with rainbow trout within two weeks.
