Pete Gill from Nevada Sate Parks said that fishing has been slow. The upper end of the reservoir is a little murky, yet anglers continued to take small largemouth bass with small spinners and crank baits. Rainbow trout that averaged 11 inches were also taken with PowerBait.
Rainbow trout fishing continued to be slow, but a few stockers that averaged 11 inches were taken with PowerBait. A few largemouth bass were also caught with top water lures. The water level continues to be low, and there is evidence of moss beginning to come in.
Boaters who are taking to the water early in the morning are finding fairly good action for striped bass in the Boulder Basin while fishing has been fairly slow in the Overton Arm.
The best area of the lake to find stripers appears to be Boulder Beach where anglers are chumming with corn to attract stripers then fishing deep with anchovies to catch fish that weigh 2 to 3 pounds. Boaters are using jigs to catch stripers that weigh around a pound from the 33 Hole to Government Wash. Sporadic success has been found outside the tires at Lake Mead Marina.
Largemouth bass were taken over the weekend off Stewart’s Point and Fish Island, according to Walt deMattos, Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) creel census clerk. Stripers weighing up to 8 pounds were caught during the weekend around the islands in front of Echo Bay Marina. Stripers have also been caught recently at Fire Cove.

The 40 fishers who were on hand for last Friday’s (8/6/04) rainbow trout plant at Willow Beach had fair success, but no 10-fish limits were seen. PowerBait and spoons were catching the fish. Plans call for the area to be stocked again this Friday (8/13/04).
Boaters continue to connect with stripers that weigh 10 pounds or more in the Willow Beach area. The best fishing has been coming at night by casting and trolling large lures that imitate rainbow trout.

Anglers appear to be staying indoors rather than brave the hot weather that is being found at Cottonwood Cove. The few boaters who have taken to the water during the past week have enjoyed fair action for 12-inch stripers by trolling near Cottonwood.

Anglers fishing both Cold Springs and Haymeadow reservoirs reported good success for largemouth bass. The fish averaged 11 inches and were taken with spinner baits, artificial worms and grubs.
Water surface temperatures averaged 73 degrees, which contributed to the rainbow trout fishing continuing to be slow, but a few trout were taken with PowerBait and worms.
Anglers fishing the ponds at Lorenzi Park, Sunset Park and Floyd Lamb State Park in Las Vegas and Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City reported good success for channel catfish following the monthly NDOW stocking on Saturday. The fish were taken with a variety of baits.
