DAV report
#1
Hi everyone,
I just got back from the DAV event up at Strawberry, and thought I'd post a few pics. The vans bringing the Vets up were late and then took them to the wrong marina, so it was nearly 10 AM before we started to fish. I fished with two Korean War Vets, Joe and Jim. We started off trolling at Renegade, and Jim got a slot cutt right away on a Rapala deep tail dancer. Joe nailed a nice rainbow, but then the famous 'Berry wind started to blow. We tried to jig some suspended cutt off of Haws Point, but with the wind it was like flying a kite. We decided to troll through The Narrows and work our way back to Soldier Creek. We picked up three more rainbows in the process. Not a bad day considering that the best fishing was over by the time we got on the water.
The BBQ was awesome, and I got to meet and talk to more of the Vets. I cannot thank Cliff and his wife, and Bob Hicks, and all of the other volunteers for their efforts with this! Also, big thanks to Cablea's, Sportsmans Warehouse, Anglers Den, and Fish Tec for all of the gear they donated, plus Albertsons and Smiths for the food. I coulndn't believe the amount of gear and food that these companies donated. I hope this becomes a yearly event because I had alot of fun, and all of the Vets that I talked to were nothing but Smiles! Fred K.

Wow they look thrilled to out there fishing today. Those Smiles are as big as the ones on the kids we took fishing for the CAST for kids event today. They were so thrill to catch a fish. Whether big or small they had as good as a time as the vets did.

Man and all's we can say is W-O-W what an awesome time.

We were on the cooking detail but hats off to all the boat captains for taking the Vets out for a very memorable time they 'won't' soon forget.

Thanks to Cliff, Jean, Bob, Garry, Jackie, Larry, Kay, Pete, Curtis...just to name a few as I meet so many BFT'rs I can't remember all the names.

Thanks to the great sponsors also to many I can't remember them all.

Every Vet walked away with great gifts and I'm sure an experience of a lifetime. It was for me.

Several Vets I talked with for sure want something like this next year. One Gentlemen said he wished they do it again next week, the week after, and the week after that. Another Vet was so pleased just to get out of the house and be in the great Utah outdoors. Yet another Vet was just pleased and thankful that folks really cared and wanted to share with them.

Thanks to the VA for making this possible also and to the Staff of folks who accompied these Vets and the drivers of the VA Vans.

And Thanks to Adam Eckle (sp/) from Rough'n It KUTV Channel 2 for taking the time to come up and film this event. Looking forward to seeing it on the 22nd I believe.

So here's some photos I took when I was done serving the burgers to a hungry bunch of very happy anglers...[Wink]

Again thank you for the AWESOME time. [Smile] [Smile]

The cooking crew was great. special thanks to Kim, Kay, Larry, Jackie you guys were all great it would not have been such a great lunch without you. And who can forget the great "corn man" CarDel. Thanks to Bob and Cliff and all the others who made it happen.

I am a Veteran and work at the VA here in SLC and over heard a veteran that was at your event and he was so glad that you guys were able to put this event on for those that "served us".

I just want to tell everyone thank you for donating your time and resources to help a few veterans have a memorable time away from the everyday trials they face.

I was able to view it on the tube. Looks like it was a great event. Too bad I don't have a boat to help out. Oh well glad others could help.[cool]

Yes, it was a fun event and just so you know, you don't have to have a boat to be part of it. A lot of our members volunteered their time to put this event on, it was what made it a success.
