2016 Utah DAV fishing event
#1
BFT team,
I'd like to thank all of you for your fantastic support for this event each year, This year was one of our most successful ever. The fishing was off the hook great and we had all the vets out on boats early this year. I loaded the last vets on their boats at 7:50 so things wen't very smoothly this year.
I hit the water with Dr K, who is in charge of the veterans program at the VA, at about 8:30 and by 11:00 we had boated 15 kokes with some of the biggest of the year. Dr K caught this beautiful 21.5 inch monster. We also got one 20.5 in and most were between 17.25 and 18.5 inches. We caught nothing under 16 inches, just fantastic fish.

We had continuous action from 45 to 55 feet in the Soldier Creek side, never out of site of the launch ramp. We caught fish on squids and spinners, green, orange and pink both in uv and glow colors. At 11:00 we packed it in and headed back to get ready for the lunch.

Everyone of the volunteers deserves a big hand, from the boaters to the folks that come spend their time helping facilitate all the logistics on shore such as registration, breakfast, handing out gear bags, escorting vets to their boats, etc......

Special thanks to the following sponsors:
Smith and Edwards
Redmond Minerals (Subway sandwiches)
Pure Fishing
Grounds for Coffee
IM FLASH
Maniac Custom Baits
Day's Market Heber
Knight's of Columbus (Spanish Fork)
Sportsman's Warehouse
Colonial Flag

I am soliciting donations for next year's event. I have created some great hats with the UDVFF logo on them. Any donation of $30 or more will receive a hat. If you would like to donate send me a PM and I will get you all the particulars. I'm wearing the hat in the picture with my grand daughter. I also attached a close up of the logo that is embroidered on the front of the hat. The black background around the outside is replaced with the navy blue of the hat.

Thank you all !!!!!

To Trevor, couldn't have done it without you this year man....

it sounds like you did much better than we did we caught quite a few kokes but the size on most of them was pretty small , my vet and his wife lost a few also because they weren't used to catching them , they did say they had fun. thanks for putting the event on and giving us a chance to give back .[cool]

One mistake that was brought to my attention was that we ran out of sandwiches before everyone got one. I take full responsibility for that and will work hard next year to ensure that does not happen. We had 200 sandwiches this year and with just over 100 people to feed we figured we would be in good shape. It's my fault for not monitoring the situation closer. I sincerely apologize to anyone who did not get a sandwich at the lunch.

I appreciate the feedback on areas we can improve on. This is definitely one area we will focus on next year.

Thank you all for your continued support...

Todd,
Thank you for all your hard work. My wife, son, and I really enjoyed the day with our vet, Dale.
On a side note, as I was leaving sunday morning the campground host, Rex, asked where all his ceiling and table decorations ended up?

Ahhhhh, everyone was wondering where those came from. We had no idea and the crew wanted to leave the place totally clean so they got cleaned up with everything else. I will get ahold of him and square things.

Thank you for letting me know and thank you for supporting our event!

[#800000]Can you give us the final number tallies? How many boats; how many Vets actually got on the water vs. how many signed up?[/#800000]
[#800000]
[/#800000]
[#800000]Also, looking ahead to next year, it would be VERY helpful to all the volunteers if the date for next years event could be decided on and disseminated to the troops as early as possible. A lot of the volunteers have jobs to work around and family vacation schedules to contend with that require early planning. I'm not complaining (I'm retired and can make just about anything work); I'm just suggesting that earlier would be better for a lot of folks.[/#800000]

[#800000]And a very HUGH thanks to both you and Trevor; I know how much work is involved. [Smile][/#800000]

I offered to send you a donation this year and you said you didn't need one and that your company pretty well covers everything, I've always made a donation every year that I couldn't attend....[crazy]

Not sure I understand your point buddy. The fund raising I am starting now is for next year's event. While my company does make a generous donation every year it does not cover everything and donations we receive do vary from year to year. This definitely is not a for profit venture. 100% of all monies received go towards the event. We have no administrative expenses as all admin time is donated as well.

Your support and contributions over the years have always been greatly appreciated as has your friendship. I hope I've answered your questions and if not please let me know where I'm lacking.

Thank you again for all your support.

I guess I didn't understand that day at Soldier Creek when I mentioned sending you a donation like I usually do and you told me that you didn't need anything, I'm happy sending a donation or donating my boat to take a DAV fishing, I'm a DAV myself as I'm sure many of the volunteers are. Hopefully next year will be on a weekend that I can take a DAV out. I know the last weekend in July 2017 is already booked with a return trip to the Mt. Home Country Music Fest.

Sorry for any confusion Pete. When I saw you up there the week before the event I was just focused on this year's event. I also didn't want to feel like just because we were talking about it you needed to give me some $$$$. I'm just not that much of a salesman I guess, I'm uncomfortable asking people for donations, especially friends. Now that this year's event is over I'm focusing on next year. If you want to send me a donation I'll gladly accept it and send you a hat.

I appreciate you and all you've done to help support this event year after year.

Take care my friend...
