Westcoast Fl fishing report
Posted by: captjim - 07-07-2002, 10:11 PM - Forum: Saltwater Fishing General - No Replies

Fishing Report July 7
June as always is one of the top months to fish. Reeldreams anglers experianced great sport fishing out on the reef. Catches primarily were a mixed bag of Kingfish, Spanish mackeral, False Albacore, and Barracuda. Inshore the Spanish mackeral turned on again. We ran quite a few night snook charters on snook alley. When the bites hot , those snook can make a new plug look like a worn out relic in one evening. Baitfish is now prevelent in the bay, thus trout fishing has really picked up. Inshore expect trout to remain good, snook to be better on the stronger tides, and redfish to begin schooling towards the end of the month. Offshore I'm still hopeful of running into blacktip sharks and permit.
Capt. Jim Roberts
reeldreams@aol.com
www.fishsarasota.com

Tampa Bay Area Fishing Report
Posted by: captchas - 07-07-2002, 08:34 PM - Forum: Florida Fishing General - No Replies

Tampa Bay Area
Fishing Report
Captain Charles Walker
7/7/02

Hot, windless days with little water movement offshore made for tough fishing last week. The slightest breeze change would push you off the spot that you tried to anchor on for bottom fishing, and if you did not drop your baits right on the heads of the fish, they wouldn’t come to the hook. So you had to anchor and re-anchor numerous times on the same spot or just “power drift” with the engine on to try and hold the boat over the fishing spot. This is not really lots of fun when the fish are reluctant to bite, but we managed to get a few on each trip anyway. The barracuda were numerous on all the wrecks offshore, so if you are not willing to share your catch with them, don’t fish the artificial reefs or the wrecks out there. They are tons of fun to catch, when you can fool one of them onto a hook though. Bonita (little tunny) are all over the place offshore and are great fun to catch on medium tackle. Just troll some silver spoons on #1 and #2 planers and you can get plenty of action from them. The barracuda hit a broken back lure that we were trolling at about 5 knots pretty regularly. Tube lures pulled as fast as you can troll and still keep them mostly underwater work well also.
On to the bait house reports:
Ruskin Bait and Tackle - 813-641-2325 – Lots of Spanish mackerel are in the Bay along the channels. There are so many of them that it’s hard to get your bait to the bottom to snapper fish. There have been some nice snapper caught in the ship’s channel and also a few keeper grouper. The early morning anglers on the flats are getting some nice redfish. They are also biting well late in the afternoon. We found some large sheepshead along the channel edges where there are rocks. Some nice flounder have been coming in from the passes and in sand holes near the passes.
Buddy’s Bait and Tackle on the Courteney Campbell Causeway in Tampa - 813-287-1026 – Trout and reds have been biting at the floodgates and around the bridges. The best baits are live shrimp.
Trappman’s Bait and Tackle on Gandy Blvd in St. Petersburg - 727-579-1414- Spanish mackerel are still biting like crazy. Sheepshead are biting well along the bridge. Tarpon and pompano are biting along the bridge. Reds are biting on the flats around the power plant in the early morning and the late afternoon.
Don’s Dock on Madeira Beach - 727-391-3223- A 28 pound king was brought in this week. Lots of barracuda and bonita have been caught offshore. Lots of trout have been brought in this week from around the islands inside the Pass.
Pass-a-Grille Bait and Tackle on St. Pete Beach - 727-360-6606- Mangrove snapper and grouper are still coming in from our gas dock. Lots of spade fish, sheepshead, redfish and Spanish mackerel. Our offshore boats have been bringing in snapper, amberjacks, some cobia and a few red grouper this week.
The Skyway Fishing Pier - 727-865-0668 and the south Skyway - 941-729-0117- Lots of pompano, Spanish mackerel, and big tarpon have been coming in today. Most of the grouper have been undersized this week. Lots of shark have been caught this week as well. On the south side, pompano have been biting well as have Spanish mackerel and some real nice cobia have been caught this week.

Folks, feel free to call any of the places in my report for more information, and be sure to tell them that you read about the fishing in their area in Capt. Wade Fishing
Posted by: KnotNancy - 07-06-2002, 10:43 PM - Forum: Florida Fishing General - No Replies

Time for a couple of Marco Island wade fishing trips. Friday was a beautiful day weather wise. Sunny all day and not even a hint of rain. The entire area is loaded with mullet and pilchards. We covered a lot of territory and the fish came in spurts. Quarter ounce jigs and 4# spinning outfits accounted for all the fish. At the end of the day on Friday, we had 5 seatrout, 4 spanish mackerel, 1 - 3 1/4 pound pompano, and numerous ladyfish and jack crevalle. Saturday started out sunny and then the storms started to build up. Our plans were to fish till noon, and that is exactly how it turned out. We got back in and just as we were driving away, the rain started. As for the fishing, we ran into two large schools of stubborn jack crevalle. One fish fed and after an intense 15 minute fight, we released a 9 pound jack that was caught on a 4# spinning outfit and jig. We chased the school down the beach and could not get another fish to feed. As we headed in the direction that we had originally planned to go, we saw another school of jacks heading our way. Once again, they just kept moving and did not want any of our offerings. Getting to our destination, we worked the area thoroughly and got a few ladyfish. Moving out to another area and some searching got a few more ladyfish, and then the lightning convinced us to get started in. Although the fishing was OK, it is no where near what it is like in the Fall. With that being said, late September and all of October is the best time to experience lots of action. The season is a short one, so it's never to early to book a wade fishing trip for that time of year.

Captain Dave Kostyo
Knot Nancy Fishing Charters
305 620-5896 Charter
305 732-2628 Beeper
www.rnfl.com/knotnancy
nkostyo@bellsouth.net

Bear Lake Mac took us fishing yesterday on Bear Lake and it started off with a 24inch 5 pound plus Mac, we ended up catching 5 total. It was a good day on the big water and I learned a lot from the best Lake trout fisherman that I know. Oregon Fishing Update
Posted by: TGF - 07-06-2002, 02:35 PM - Forum: Oregon Fishing General - No Replies

Forecasting for the fishing week of July 5th - July 11th, 2002

Fisheries update - The sturgeon show is continuing to be a challenge for many anglers in the estuary. Sculpin- the scourge of the Columbia is a real problem down river of the Astoria/Megler Bridge. The John Day Ramp is consistent for Tongue Point anglers and the sculpin are far fewer.

Oversize fishing remains steady and the shad are still providing much action. The season opener for summer chinook was respectable on some days- especially in the Bonneville area. Fluctuating water levels is making it challenging to fish. Down river, anglers are catching a mix of summer steelhead and chinook. Most anglers are targeting steelhead and are able to take home fin-clipped summer chinook.

The ocean opens up on Sunday for fin-clipped coho and any chinook of legal size. It should be great! The Sandy River is clearing and is starting to produce fish again. Clackamas anglers are taking fewer springers but steelheading remains good.

The Santiams are producing a mix of springers and summer steelhead. John Day and Umpqua Rivers are providing quality smallmouth fishing. The offshore salmon season opens July 7th allowing the retention of fin-clipped coho. Offshore bottom fishing is excellent. Scheduled to be stocked this week are Carmen, Trail Bridge and Detroit Reservoirs, Leaburg Lake, The upper McKenzie and North Fork Santiam Rivers and Quartzville Creek.

Have this report e-mailed to you weekly or sign up for our full version with tips, forecasts, and professional guide's advice!
http://www.TheGuidesForecast.com/

Get more Oregon fishing information at
http://www.theguidesforecast.com

What do you put on your cork tape???
Posted by: yoda1560 - 07-06-2002, 06:48 AM - Forum: Saltwater Fishing General - No Replies

I recently bought a Calstar 800L cork taped. People have been telling me to put electrical tape and others are telling me to put shrink tube on the cork before placing on the reel clamp. Personally, I found it hard to find the right size shrink tube. What works for you??? Please share with a puzzled fisherman. Thanks!!!

Crappie Fishing Report Big Sandy July 4,2002
Posted by: KYLCRAPPIE - 07-05-2002, 06:16 PM - Forum: Tennessee Fishing General - No Replies

KYLCRAPPIE GUIDE SERVICE
Fishing Report July 3,2002
The Crappie fishing is ON! I went out yesterday morning for 1 hour and 30 min. and boated 28 nice crappie topped by a 2-1/4#. Couldn’t stay out long because of the family thing for the 4th. But I will be back out there tomorrow morning. The lake level is at summer pool with the water tempters around 83DEG. The crappie I caught are still on the flats of 12 to 16'. Saturday and Sundays I expect the same pattern to hold true, Best baits were Crank baits, Bandit 300 series (RootBeer,Fire Tiger, and Yellow Chart). We troll these crank baits from the back of the boat with the big motor at 1.5 mph. (NO FASTER) the rods we were using are regular bass rods with 16# line. Here's what you do, Run out to your favorite area and find that 12 to 14' water, Drop one crank bait in the water and let the line run out 50 to 75 yards behind the boat with the Big motor running in gear at 1.5 mph, Do the same with 4 to 6 rods, Keep your boat running at 1.5 mph and set back and watch the fun begin, If you need any help with this technique please feel free to email me. Or you can find me at Mansard Island Boat dock around 5:30 am don’t forget to take a kid and let them catch some Big crappie. Also there are opening dates for July and Aug. if anyone needs a guide trip.
God bless and good fishing to you all.

Charles
KYLCRAPPIE Guide Service
KYLCRAPPIE@Hotmail.com
