Boston Harbor & South Shore Striper-6/29/02
Posted by: bfast - 06-29-2002, 10:24 AM - Forum: Massachusetts Fishing General - No Replies

BOSTON HARBOR & SOUTH SHORE- Stripers 6/29/02

Fishing is the harbor has been usually slow for this time of year. There is plenty of bait in evidence, both herring and silversides, however the bass aren’t showing in the bait—maybe the results of feeding at night on the moon. Quincy bay and the rocks and ledges off Cohasset’s Minot’s Ledge produced the best results during this week.

From fly fishers, large herring patterns with a Ray’s fly dropper worked well in the bay as well as cast to the ledges. Roger Thout of Princeton, MA and son-in-law Mike had a good start in Quincy catching two keepers in the 30” class and finished with numerous sub-legal size bass , 20-27 inches, from the ledges off Cohasset. A non-flyfisher, Mike cast Fin-S rubber Baits in Alewife color on ½ oz. Jig-heads as well as Texas-rigged white Slug-gos for his bass.

Rudy Ford, a charter skipper from Lake Ontario, had similar results on his two-day bass trip during the week. However, a mixed-bag of bass and small bluefish were part of his take. Sliders and poppers on the long-rod worked well in the early morning hours of the out-going tide in Quincy Bay as did Slug-gos on light-spinning gear. Towards the end of the week, new bass appeared to be moving in the harbor as the ones we caught were covered with sea-lice.

Capt. Posted by: wiperhunter2 - 06-29-2002, 04:14 AM - Forum: Flaming Gorge, Fish Lake, Lake Powell Fish Report - No Replies

We just got back from the Gorge and the kokanee and smallmouth fishing was great. We fished at sheepcreek from 5:00pm until dark on thursday, we caught and released 10 kokes before setting up camp for the evening. Today we caught our limits of kokes by 8:00am and then started fishing for smallmouth. After catching 25 to 30 smallmouth we headed for home around 11:00am. Water temp was between 66 and 68 degree. LOUISIANA FISHING EXPEDITIONS: Hopedale Report

Yesterday my customers , Dr. John and Madelyn, started out catching nice size trout up to 4 pounds on ultra light tackle.

After a couple stops, I went into an area that I have not been in for months and I broke out some new 5 foot Fenwick rods with brand new Sedona 500 reels loaded with 6 pound vanish line. I am talking some really light equipment and they had all they could handle catching a couple of 4 pound trout and 15 black drum up to 7 pounds. They caught most of their fish in one spot and said that they had never experienced fishing like this before.

They were fighting fish constantly for a couple of hours with the light tackle with their drags screaming the whole time. They really broke in my new ultra light rods right for me. In all, they ended their day with 40 nice fish.

I put a new 250 hp Yamaha motor on my boat yesterday and am going to give it it's first run in a few minutes. Finally got into the wipers hard. Caught everything on the troll. No good boils but we had some surface activity around us a couple times. Casted into it and had some followers but no takers. Tried out my new in-line side planar board and with chrome and blue thundersticks seemed to be the hot ticket. Also caught one wally. Ended up catching close to 20 fish.

Flats Report for the Banana River
6/8/2002 Flats fishing report for the Indian and Banana Rivers. By Capt Doug Blanton
Fishing has been great this past week. With all the rain we have had over the past few weeks the water temperature has come down and the top water feed is on. All of the trout and reds we have caught this week have been on top water! So, if you are a top water nut like me, get out there now and catch a memory.
Redfish
All of the reds we have caught this week have been in 1 to 2 feet of water. The reds have been holding near schools of mullet on the inside edge of the flats. Unlike earlier this year when the reds were schooling with the bait, they are now busting any mullet that swims a little to close. We have had our best luck this week on the 3 1/4 inch Florida Special Rip Roller. We have been working these top water plugs slowly a few feet in front of the reds with great results. Keep in mind the the water has been flat and clear. Try to cast as far as possible from the boat, keep movement to a minimum and be very quite. These fish have been a little spooky.
Trout
Great news, the larger trout have been on the flats and hungry for top water plugs. Most of the trout we have put in the boat this week have been between 15 to 30 inches. We haven't found any of the 30 + inche fish yet this year but I feel it is only going to be a few days now till we land a gator. It ways in June last year that we put 6 trout over 30 with one 37 inch gator gator in the boat. All of the trout we caught this past week were one again caught on the 3 1/4 inch Florida Special Rip Roller. Most of our trout were caught in 2 to 3 feet of water on the outer edge of the flats.
Till next time, Capt. Doug

No-motor Zone
6/25/2002 report by Craig Redwine
As of 6-25-02 well our patience has paid off despite constant downpours the fishing has been excellent the Redfish have been schooled up and taking most baits. Sunday I fished alone and caught plenty of Redfish, 3 were over 40 inches and caught my first red on fly. Snook, Trout, Jacks and Ladyfish are all abundant keeping the excitement up and the drags screaming. So in a nutshell if your willing to put on the raingear and brave the weather the rewards are worth the pruned fingers.

See you on the water
Capt. Lake Wilson June 27
Posted by: maddjack - 06-28-2002, 04:22 PM - Forum: Kansas Fishing General - No Replies

The action on Wilson the last few days has been surfacing stripers! The fish haven't been large but the action has been excellent. Lots of fish to 5 lbs. 3 days ago I saw a school on top that was approx. one acre in size and they stayed up for 30 minutes. I wish I would have had my video camera with me. The white perch are also surfacing for those of you that want to catch allot of smaller fish. The perch are easier to catch and follow while surfacing than the stripers, and they make excellent eating. I have been having my best luck throwing 1/4 oz. bucktails with a red head and white or yellow tail. Good Luck and with the 4th of July weekend coming up be safe and look out for the other guy.
