Good Weather & Good Dolphin Action (Finally)
Posted by: KnotNancy - 07-15-2002, 12:19 AM - Forum: Florida Fishing General - No Replies

The best news in a while is that there are some dolphin to be caught off the Miami area. Today, those boats that ran beyond 15 miles reported seeing little to nothing and catching nothing as well. We found two schools of schoolie size dolphin 14 and 12 miles out. The first school was around a small piece of bamboo. The second was in open water with no structure around. Lisa, along with her husband Richard, her brother Richard, and her father Richard had a blast catching 13 dolphin. We decided to run in to the reef and try it for a while as we had plenty of dolphin. There were reports of a few sailfish, a few bonito, and a few kingfish being caught. Our mono leader bait got cut off by a toothy critter, the one with the wire leader never got touched, and we missed a hook up on another fish. Everyone on board wanted to catch a few more fish. They didn't care what kind or whether it was edible or not. I ran in to do some barracuda fishing. At the first location, we got invaded by the jet ski crowd. After going out to catch a few larger baits, we tried the second spot and hit pay dirt. After landing and releasing 3 cudas and missing about 4 other strikes, it was time to enjoy the ride and weather as we headed back in.

Captain Dave Kostyo
Knot Nancy Fishing Charters
305 620-5896 Charter
305 732-2628 Beeper
www.rnfl.com/knotnancy
nkostyo@bellsouth.net

Sarasota Fla. Report 07/14/02
Posted by: captbobsmith - 07-14-2002, 09:21 PM - Forum: Florida Fishing General - No Replies

July 14, 2002

Sarasota Fla. Fishing Report

By Capt. Bob Smith

Sweet and Sour is the best way I can express our fishing conditions at this time. I was restricted to the bay for the few days I was able to get out fishing. Although there has been plenty of Spanish mackerel and little tunny action around the (M) reef, the weather has been unstable. Dodging the storms and with uncomfortable sea conditions at best, it is the price we need to pay for the much needed rain.

We could find fish most of the time on the bay, but very few keeper size trout. The live shrimp are very small now and only good for tipping your jigs. Fishing the grass flats with jigs and sinking plugs as slow as possible without getting hung-up on the bottom too much has worked for us. Almost as slow as working a plastic worm for freshwater bass.

You can still hook-up with the occasional tarpon, snook or redfish but don't plan on it. We need the weather to stabilize and our fishing will improve as we get into our summer pattern. If you get offshore to the artificial reefs, be sure to take some small crabs along for permit. You can sight-fish for the permit or just free-line the bait out. Don't go too light on your tackle, I like 12lb test line. Permit like to circle your boat and any debris in the water may cut lighter line.

Enjoy and Protect

For more information on Sarasota's Sportfishing, please visit my Website: http://www.sarasota-fla-fishing.com

Hyrum
Posted by: SKEETER - 07-14-2002, 04:57 PM - Forum: Fishing Report Archive Board - No Replies

I went up to Hyrum on saturday I didn't know there was a tournament going on up there. I would of went out to willard instead. But as you might guess there was about 4 boats on every spot we fished. The fishing was pretty slow I don't know if it was because of the fishing pressure or what. We did end up catching some large mouth in the 1 1/2 lb range but nothing serious. I tried to talk to the tourny director to find out the details of the tournament but after he repeatedly ignored me and treated me like I was some piece of crap that was not at his level, I left. I tell you what I fished allot of tournaments and have never met someone in his position that has acted like that. This is a Sad thing because these people are suppose to be promoting the sport, getting people involved so everyone can come out and enjoy our fisheries. Most fishing clubs and tournament organizations promote catch and release and conservation. I've seen it many times when they have raised money and went out and planted reefs in some of our lakes to provide habitat for fish. These organizations are good so if you encounter the Cache Valley team tournament guy just walk away he's nobody worth associating with .

All fish with NO clipped fin (cutthroat) have to be released immediately. If one takes a jig deep in the gills and is a goner, all you can do is unhook it and toss it back in the water or shove it back down the ice hole. I'm going to follow the law to the letter regardless of the moral and ethical issues. I'd rather spend my hard earn cash on lures and all the stuff to go fishing and not some fine because I believe I'm doing the right thing regardless of the law. It ain't worth it!

My additude may be hardline but just pay a fine or two and have some johnny law dog fish cop treat you as some lawless, criminal scum sucker when you did, what you considered to be morally and ethically correct. Bottom line, it don't matter. YOU BROKE THE LAW - YOU PAY! I'll pay Hooked or Sportsman's Warehouse instead.

Just my two cents......

Tackle box

I got a new tackle box it is a Plano758 four drawer system and I love it. Man you can organize all your tackle a lot better with this box so you dont have stuff getting all tangled up with other stuff. I paid $23.99 for it and it was well worth it. Have any of yall used the Garcia ant-backlash bait casting reel? What did you think of it? Do you think that C5 MAG-X would be better it has that magnetic brake to fine tune outgoing spool friction and lessen the possibility of overrun when casting lighter baits. When your bank fishing and the wind comes up and the water gets real choppy do the fish head for deep water where it is more calm under the surface? Raypaw

Cant change yesterday
cant change tommorow
can change today so lets get busy
