When your bank fishing and the wind comes up and the water gets real choppy do the fish head for deep water where it is more calm under the surface? Raypaw

Cant change yesterday
cant change tommorow
can change today so lets get busy

 Wildlife Violation
Posted by: PREDATOR - 07-13-2002, 06:41 PM - Forum: Pineview, Jordanelle and Deer creek Fish Report Archive - No Replies

Well, I picked up my first wildlife violation today. We were up fishing piveview this morning caught three nice muskies, came around the corner of cemetary point and ran into a muskie that was floating belly up. Two other boats were in the immediate area and saw the event take place. We tried to revive it for about fourty five minuets and it never did anything more than a couple small wags of it tail. We brought it into the live well and turned the areator on full to try and get him back. No doing. He was dead. Anyways, we figured we better not let him go to waste and decided to keep him. Now I dont eat fish except on a very rare occasion so a musky is way too much for me but I know lots of people who would love it. We load up the boat and lo and behold theres a fish and game officer in the parking lot. We showed him the fish and our liscenses, explained the whole story to him. He measured the fish, it was a 37 incher. Three inches short of the legal size. Ooops. He has no idea if our story is legitimate so he begins writing me out a ticket. As hes writing it, one of the guys who saw the whole thing happen out on the lake pulls up, the fish and game guy takes him aside and the verifies our story. I recieved a citation regardless. I am not posting this to show anger toward fish and game. I am just glad the guy was out there doing his job. I am posting to warn everyone not to let thier conscience get the best of them. No matter how right it is in your mind, the law is the law. Its better to let a fish rot on the surface than to break the law for any reason. I wasnt sure I was a believer in that idea until today. I had a pretty solid case made out in my defense as far as trying to be a responsible angler went but as far as the law according to the proclamation went I was wrong. So, heres my warning, if its not 100% legal turn away and live with the guilt. It may be better than living with the feeling of being a law breaker. I feel like crap. And I am going to have to pay. Better to feel like crap and not have to pay.

UNICORN CATCHER F.L.P.

 Oregon Fishing Update
Posted by: TGF - 07-13-2002, 01:16 PM - Forum: Oregon Fishing General - No Replies

Fisheries Update

July 12th - July 18th, 2002

Sturgeon fishing is hot and cold in the estuary. It was at its best late last week but after the holiday weekend, the fish seem to be a bit shy as most guides have to work hard to hang their limits. Sculpin and crabs have become a real nuisance for anglers working out of Hammond and the deeper water out of Tongue Point. Oversize fishing remains steady in the gorge with floater shad the best bait.

The water from Beacon Rock to the deadline at Bonneville opens up on 7/16. ODF&W says over 1,000 fin-clipped summer chinook have been taken in the "bonus fishery" thus far. It stays open until the end of the month. Steelhead fishing is fair as well but should improve with the current tide series.

Decent ocean results for chinook and coho is reported near the CR Buoy out of Astoria. You just have to fish a little deeper for the chinooks and the earlier the better for hungry fish. Offshore salmon fishing on the central and Oregon coast is outstanding. Mid-Willamette steelheaders are catching fish below Dexter Dam. The Clackamas River is holding up well but the Sandy is having visibility problems due to glacial runoff. The Santiam systems are coming into their prime for summer steelhead; most of the chinook present are coloring up. The Nestucca, Wilson and Siletz River offer some very good steelheading with the right technique at the right time.

Deschutes fly fishermen are taking redsides and large whitefish on nymphs and though there are a few steelhead in the lower river, it's early to actively pursue them. Offshore salmon fishing on the central and Oregon coast is outstanding.

Trout will be stocked this week at Collins Lake, Estacada Lake, Faraday Lake, North Fork Reservoir, Small Fry Lake, Trillium Lake, Big Cliff Reservoir, Breitenbush River, Clear Lake, Detroit Reservoir, Leaburg Lake, upper and lower McKenzie River, Mid Fork Willamette River, Salt Creek and the North Fork Santiam River.

Have this report e-mailed to you weekly or sign up for our full version with tips, forecasts, and professional guide's advice!
http://www.TheGuidesForecast.com/

Get more Oregon fishing information at
http://www.theguidesforecast.com

 Home from willard and....(part 2)

We hit the water at about 6:30 pm. My father-in-law hooked the first wiper at 8:00 pm. I hooked one at about 9:30pm. We ended up leaving the water at about 11:30 (I'm glad my boat has spot lights on it!) We left with our limit! What a blast. Man those things can put up a fight. At one point, we both hooked one about 2 seconds apart and thought we were hung up on the bottom. Both turned out to be fish. WE ARE HOOKED ON WIPERS!!! Thx for all the tips and help everyone provided. They all helped us have the time of our life tonight! See ya guys on the water soon!

The Fisherless Fishermen
